today
he’s five.
that age,
where they are
no longer a toddler,
and suddenly
a big kid.
about to start
kindergarten.
more self-sufficient
than yesterday,
constantly reminding me
that he isn’t the baby
he once was.
last night,
I laid with him
longer.
we snuggled close,
he’s
the best
snuggler.
I breathed in that
sweet boy smell,
a mix of soap
and wild energy.
we sang
his favorite songs.
I told him
all about
the day he was
born.
I want to
remember it all
forever.
he’ll always be my baby.
my first born.
he has
my eyes,
my sass,
my heart.
happy fifth birthday boo.
I love you all the skies,
and to the moon
and back.
